Besides Weltmeyer, Warkant was the only direct World Cup I-son in the Celle lot of stallions. He already spent his youth with the National State Stud and grew up in Hunnesrück. He started his breeding career in 1987 on the service station in Beedenbostel after having successfully completed his stallion performance test in Adelheidsdorf. In 1992, Warkant moved to the station in Grethem where he completed his duties until a couple of days ago.
When looking at his pedigree, one could expect quite a versatile inheritance. However, Warkant’s progeny are clearly specialized for dressage sport. He became quickly known as “regular producer of the Verden Elite auctions”. Top-priced auction horses like the Federal Champion from Munich 1991, Wanessa (DM 130,000) or the licensed stallion Wilberforce (DM 400,000) underlined that. 162 offspring have been sold at the auctions up to now.
He has sired 18 licensed Hanoverian stallions and 51 state premium mares. But the stallion’s offspring could also turn heads at competitions. Almost 400 progeny are successfully competing in dressage and show jumping from novice to advanced level. More than 270 show up in dressage, 20% of them at advanced level. Wansuela Suerte, winner of many Nations Cup events and World Cup qualifications under her rider Hubertus Schmidt, is certainly the most famous offspring. It was hard to think of German Championships without this medal-winning duo, but both also won the team gold medal at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen in 2006. The daughter by Warkant earned the incredible amount of something more than Euro 300,000. And she was no exception. Ann Kathrin Linsenhoff was happy to compete with the Warkant-daughter Wahajama-Unicef. She achieved victories and placements in international dressage tests including World Cup qualifiers. The gelding World Congress, successful under Heiner Schiergen, is another representative for the many successful offspring, just like the gelding Wunschtraum under Holga Finken. It would go beyond the scope of this obituary to mention all the progeny with a total amount of lifetime winnings of more than Euro 10,000. This fact certainly outlines how sustainable Warkant has influenced the dressage horse breed.
We are proud that he accomplished his duties with the State Stud Celle throughout his life.
